Gallery Hijinks Artist: Morgan Blair
I dreamt once that I was back in my grandmother’s house for the first time since her death, and everything was exactly how it had been but aged into the present. Food in the refrigerator was festering and blossoming out of its containers, black residue on the banister had built up into a thick paste, lace blouses had been accumulating on the dryer. To access the feeling of a strong memory or the memory of a strong feeling, we can systematically transcribe the experience into pattern and color, so that viewing it begins to deliver us back into that state. These are the latest in a series of iterations evolving from this idea, each house standing as an abandoned state of mind frozen in time, still oozing with life from it’s original inhabitant. I want to suggest the experience of inhabiting a state of mind not our own, and to explore and feel as someone else.
